Once a haven for summer visitors, Hopatcong has become a year-round community.  Many former summer homes surrounding the state's largest lake have been converted into permanent residences, and much of the interior of the borough was developed in the late 1960's to early 1970's.

Lake Hopatcong offers residents and tourists the opportunity to swim, sail, canoe and drive a powerboat around the wooded shores.  Others can simply enjoy the view of the water from any number of restaurants or night spots around the lake.

With over 15,000 residents, Hopatcong has one of the largest populations of Sussex County’s municipalities.
